Poverty of petitioner is never accepted
as a ground for relief in a court of law. Lawyers don’t even plead that as a
matter of right. But why is it so when the whole system talks about
poverty eradication and equality?
Although in relative terms we all are
poor and rich both. But if we leave aside the myths about our ‘golden past’ fed
to us by right wingers, presently ours' is a country having poverty in absolute
terms.
Is our legal system even designed to
help a litigant who is not rich!!!
When judges do not accept poverty as a
ground for relief then why a lawyer who charges fees from a poor client should
think worryingly. A poor client is equally liable to pay fees as a
rich client. When the courts don’t discriminate, should lawyers do?

The Judges would heed to if they were assured of the lawyer arguing the case is doing so pro bono
