He wrote a letter for us...
Dear
Friends,
There is something I need to
say and that I want to tell You. I would have told you this personally, but I
also want for John to know this before he leaves tomorrow.
I move
often. When I arrive in a new place and I don’t know anybody it takes some time
to meet people and new friends. In addition, it is difficult to find a place
where I can live and do my writing; it takes time and lots of searching and
trying different places.
That
was completely different this time and in Nainital. The day I arrived, the
first people I met were John, Kartikey and Nitya. You invited me to your house,
treated me like an old friend and opened your home to me. There I met your dear
wife, Kartikey. You asked me to join you for lunch and dinner and to come
often. In addition, you wanted to help me to find a place within my budget and you
started asking people about a suitable place. Ashok, your employee, found that
place. All this would have never happened if it weren’t because you all are
such amazing people and so generous and kind.
The
point is, I don’t want for you to think that I don’t appreciate you or that I
don’t value having meet you and getting to know you. I hope our friendship will
continue to grow and last for a long time.
When I
shied away from your invitations to lunch and dinner it wasn’t because I
wouldn’t like to spend time with all of you or because there is something I
don’t like about you. I think you are great and you are one of the main reasons
I am thinking to make Nainital my Indian home.
If I
don’t come to your home every day, please don’t feel or think that it is
because I may have some reservations or that there is something I dislike about
you. I just don’t think I should abuse the friendship and kindness you offer me
so generously.
In
addition, Yes, I do have a strange lifestyle, schedule and habits. I write till
late and night. I usually spend the morning alone and quiet and preparing my
work for the day and actually getting myself ready to do the things I need to
do. Most of the evenings in the week, I teach online. Mostly I go out in the
afternoon for a good walk, a strong cup of coffee and hopefully to be able to
be with people as nice and as smart, warm and real as you are.
Please,
don’t for one minute think I don’t appreciate your friendship and what you have
done for me. I truly appreciate you and Dear John. You are amazing people and I
am speechless about how kind you are to me. Thank you so much, I humbly ask you
to consider me your friend and to accept my friendship, even if sometimes you
don’t understand what I am thinking or doing. Thank you very much for you and
for sharing your life so generously with me.
Sincerely,
John
